Termini Imerese – A Hidden Coastal Gem Between Palermo and Cefalù

Termini Imerese is a quiet Sicilian town overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, perfectly placed between Palermo and Cefalù — just a 30-minute train ride from either. Nestled along the northern coast, it offers easy access to sandy beaches, crystal-clear water, and an authentic rhythm of life away from the usual tourist crowds.

Known as a historic industrial town, Termini has a proud working past.  As the birthplace of pasta in Europe, families here — in particular the Di Cola family, the original owners of Palazzo Sicily — produced world famous pasta.

Today, Termini Imerese retains its quiet charm. Streets rise from the harbor to sunlit terraces, where the scent of sea air mixes with espresso and freshly baked pastries. Life moves at an unhurried pace: fishermen mending nets, children playing along the promenade, and church bells marking the afternoon.

With its blend of history, sea, and everyday Sicilian life, Termini Imerese is a perfect base to explore northern Sicily — and the best way to experience it is from Palazzo Sicily, where the views, the light, and the lingering sense of the past make the town feel close yet timeless.

History

Its name, Thermae Himerenses — “the baths of Himera” — recalls the ancient thermal springs once prized by the Romans. Just outside town lie the ruins of Himera, the old Greek city destroyed in 409 BC, where fragments of temples and fortifications still stand beneath the Sicilian sun.
